Supporting
Doing our bit
MPH’s owner, Matt grew up in Western Park and now he’s a local business owner he believes in giving back to his community by supporting local projects which close to his heart, which include sports and quality craft beer.
Leicester Unity Boxing Club
At the age of 45 I decided to learn how to box as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and yes, I know I left it a bit late in life to start!
There are several boxing gyms in and around Leicester, but I decided on Unity Boxing Club in Beaumont Leys, solely because it felt like a proper old school boxing gym, so off I went for my first class.
From that moment I could not get enough, what a great bunch of genuine people who made me feel very welcome leading me to make a lot of new friends.
The club also does so much for the local children, literally changing their lives for the better and upon finding out how little or no government funding they receive, I decided to help.
First I started by sponsoring the club but then with the increase in energy costs I then insulating the roof to help keep the bills down and a more stable environment, making the gym a better place to train as it would be freezing in the winter and roasting in the summer.
Paige Murney, GB boxer
While training at the club, one of the pro fighters, former Team GB Boxer Paige Murney was also training and in need of sponsorship to help her on the way to the top and it’s an absolute honour to be a small part in her big journey.
Paige’s Background: Born 21 January 1995 in Leicester, she is a British amateur boxer who trains with the Leicester Unity club, wining bronze medal in the 2017 European Union Championships. In 2019, she was selected to compete at the World Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia.
Western Park Charity Beer Festival
MPH started sponsoring the Western Park Charity beer in 2021, covering the costs of barrel of beer and the following year due to its success in both raising funds of local charities in Leicestershire and such an inspiring community event, we decided to sponsor a bar. Following on from that, 2023 saw us become one of the main festival sponsors and we’re proudly doing the same this year, 2024.
What is the Western Park Charities Beer Festival?
Setup by a group of beer loving residents based in the Western Park area of Leicester who in 2015 decided to start a beer festival to raise funds to support a new church hall. Well, the Hall got built and the first festival was a great hit; therefore, they decided to carry on and support local charities within Leicestershire and with the support of both the community and local businesses they have raised over £50k to date.
The festival is now a main stay of the Western Park for both the local community and within the city, seeing people travel in form wider area for the two-day weekend event. Starting on the Friday evening with introduction to the beers for the sponsors and opening to the public for adults only evening of fine craft ale, cider wines and gin and tonic and excellent local food supplied by Mithaas, our local pure veggie restaurant making the perfect combination.
Saturday consists of a family session in the afternoon with games, a tuckshop and pizza plus beer for the adults and then an evening session for adults only where all the beer must go – every pint sold means more funds to the charities.
