What a start we’ve had to 2025, firstly kicking things off with the installation of side-by-side double dormers and then supporting DIY SOS: The Big Build when they came to Leicester for the second time! It goes without saying that MPH went along to offer our skills, offering to help-out in any way possible.
It was amazing to see the turnout this time, almost double that of first DIY SOS eight years ago. People of all ages and skills came to support, not just from Leicester, but from the whole country. At one point there were just over hundred more helpers all packed into a three-bed semi, with fifteen of them being carpenters!
With that many chippies onsite, we didn’t get a look-in providing any carpentry; however, we got stuck in, helping all the other trades, from ripping out the old kitchen and bathroom to clearing the back garden and then loading it with sleepers and slabs needed for the build. It was an amazing experience and a pleasure to work with, and meet so many genuinely nice people, all giving their time for free. The real surprise was that Nick Knowles and the crew remembered Matt, the boss from when we helped last time and if you re-watch that episode he looks just the same, but a little less and greyer hair!
